There is some great biking just outside of San Pedro, with a variety of routes to choose from. We wish we would’ve dedicated a whole day to biking, rather than the half that we did. It was still a great time though!
Along one of the routes you come across Pukará de Quitor, a national monument about 3km outside of town. This hillside Pukará (fort) was built by the atacameño people in the 12th century as a place of defense. It was a neat site, but you can only walk along the side of the dwellings due to their weak condition. There is also a hike up to the top of a hill right next to the Pukará, which is absolutely stunning.
We continued on through Quebrada de Cari which felt a bit surreal at times with the massive sediment structures and the salt along the way.
Overall an awesome and mildly challenging bike adventure!
